The Basics of Rubber Band Crafts

The Basics of Rubber Band Crafts

Did you know that rubber bands can be used for crafts? Well, they can! They are smaller than the type of rubber band you are used to seeing, and are colorful. The basic rubber band bracelet can be made with your fingers or a loom. The loom for rubber banding has a total of 39 pegs which are hollowed out most of the way down and are open 1/3 of the way.

My favorite way to make a basic bracelet is on my fingers. This is the way that you do it: first twist one band and put it on your pointer and middle fingers, then take another singular band, DO NOT twist it, and put it on top of the other band on your fingers. Then you loop the bottom band over the top band by taking the bottom band on one side and lifting it up and over the ONE finger it was on. Do the same with the other side. Then, you push down on the rubber band on your fingers. Place another band on top of the one on your fingers and do the same looping process then placing process. You will notice the bracelet growing downward between your fingers as you repeat that process, so when you think the bracelet is long enough, place both sides of the band on one finger and loop the bottom side of the band over the top side, take the side on your finger off, but don't let go! You have to give it a tug before it will be secure. Now, to connect your bracelet, you need to take an S clip* and attach one side of it to one side of the bracelet, and the other side too. *An S clip is a clip shaped in an S so it can hold both sides of your bracelet together, and can be found online, or any store like Meijers should work. Your bracelet is now completed!
